Frequently Asked Questions
How can a cooperative join CoopCycle?
What does the CoopCycle software do?
What’s the difference between CoopCycle software and CoopCycle federation?
The CoopCycle software is developed as open-access under a reciprocity license (Coopyleft). The CoopCycle federation, on the other hand, employs the developers, supports new cooperatives, provides training, technical support, business development assistance, and offers a ready-to-use hosting environment.
It’s possible to use the software without joining the federation, but becoming a member makes setup much easier and provides many collective benefits.
How much does it cost to join the CoopCycle federation?
€49 per month during the first year to support your launch. After that, 2% of the revenue from deliveries made through the platform.
For example, if your cooperative generates €5,000 in monthly revenue, the contribution would be €100.
How does the CoopCycle federation work?
Each member has one vote. Decisions are made collectively through online and in-person assemblies. An annual general assembly brings cooperatives together to meet, share ideas, and move common projects forward.
The federation operates in a horizontal, open, and cooperative way.
What is the Coopyleft license?
The Coopyleft license ensures that only cooperative or non-profit projects can use the software. It protects collective work from being appropriated by capitalist actors, while encouraging its spread within solidarity networks.
How are software development priorities decided?
The federation’s salaried developers work on a roadmap collectively defined based on the needs expressed by the members. The project remains open: external contributions are welcome, even outside the federation’s official roadmap.
I’m not a cooperative. Can I use CoopCycle?
No. The Coopyleft license restricts usage to limited-profit or cooperative organizations.
This is a political choice: we refuse to let our tool be used for Uberization or value extraction by capitalist models.
How do you fight against Uberization?
Are there other similar projects?
Yes. CoopCycle is part of a broader movement of solidarity-based digital alternatives.
Projects like Framasoft, Mobilizon, Cascade, and Open Food France share the same philosophy.
