Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about CoopCycle to help you get started with confidence.
How can a cooperative join CoopCycle?
It’s simple: just write to us at contact@coopcycle.org. We’ll connect you with other cooperatives in the network, guide you through the process, and invite you to our regular meetings. Joining CoopCycle means becoming part of a solidarity-based ecosystem.
CoopCycle is a complete bike logistics platform designed to create and manage a worker-owned bike delivery cooperative. It offers a suite of tools tailored for social and solidarity economy organizations: order management, route planning, courier management, invoicing, and a storefront interface for local businesses. All of this is built around principles of self-management, solidarity, and technological frugality.

The CoopCycle software is developed as open-access under a reciprocity license (Coopyleft). The CoopCycle federation, on the other hand, employs the developers, supports new cooperatives, provides training, technical support, business development assistance, and offers a ready-to-use hosting environment.

It’s possible to use the software without joining the federation, but becoming a member makes setup much easier and provides many collective benefits.

€49 per month during the first year to support your launch. After that, 2% of the revenue from deliveries made through the platform.

For example, if your cooperative generates €5,000 in monthly revenue, the contribution would be €100.

Each member has one vote. Decisions are made collectively through online and in-person assemblies. An annual general assembly brings cooperatives together to meet, share ideas, and move common projects forward.

The federation operates in a horizontal, open, and cooperative way.

The Coopyleft license ensures that only cooperative or non-profit projects can use the software. It protects collective work from being appropriated by capitalist actors, while encouraging its spread within solidarity networks.

The federation’s salaried developers work on a roadmap collectively defined based on the needs expressed by the members. The project remains open: external contributions are welcome, even outside the federation’s official roadmap.

No. The Coopyleft license restricts usage to limited-profit or cooperative organizations.

This is a political choice: we refuse to let our tool be used for Uberization or value extraction by capitalist models.

CoopCycle enables couriers to be decision-makers within their cooperatives and to control their own work tools. It’s a direct alternative to extractive platforms, based on autonomy, cooperation, and solidarity.

Yes. CoopCycle is part of a broader movement of solidarity-based digital alternatives.
Projects like Framasoft, Mobilizon, Cascade, and Open Food France share the same philosophy.
